When it comes to selecting a car charger for your home it’s difficult to know where to start, you will need to consider 3 things: supply, speed and smart functionality.

Firstly, you need to know what power supply you have at home, this will be either single-phase or three-phase. When it comes to electricity, phase refers to the supply of the property. If you have a single-phase supply, you can have a charger up to a maximum of 7.4kW (most homes are single phase supply). Three-phase supply allows for a charger up to a maximum of 22.2kW, this is more common in commercial buildings, but some larger homes have three-phase.

Once you know what supply you have, you need to determine the speed of the charger you want. Chargers usually start at 3.6kW which is not very fast and could take up to 19hrs to charge. The most common option for home charging is a 7.4kW charger as this is the fastest you can charge at home on a single-phase supply.
