What is the BMW 2 Series M Sport?

Unless you’re in the market for a seriously quick performance model, then chances are you’ll be looking for something cheaper to run than a BMW M2.

A used BMW 2 Series M Sport gives buyers the option of more efficient engines, plus styling inspired by the company’s renowned M models.

All 2 Series models have been available with an M Sport trim, so you can pick from affordable used models or much newer examples.

What are the BMW 2 Series M Sport specs?

Previous-generation 2 Series M Sport models were available with a range of engines, starting with the efficient 136hp 218i, which uses a punchy 1.5-litre petrol engine.

There are also 2.0-litre petrols, such as the 184hp 220i and the 252hp 230i, as well as a couple of 2.0-litre diesels, including the 150hp 218d and the 190hp 220d.

Some earlier models came with a twin-turbo 2.0-litre diesel in the form of the 224hp 225d or a 245hp 2.0-litre petrol, badged 228i.

Used BMW 2 Series M Sport features and equipment

A used BMW 2 Series M Sport comes packed with equipment, including sat-nav, parking sensors, leather upholstery and keyless start.

Newer second-generation G42 models, introduced in 2021, come with LED headlights, two-zone climate control, cruise control and BMW’s most up-to-date iDrive system.

Being a BMW, there are plenty of optional extras available, including keyless entry, a heated steering wheel, a parking camera and a heads-up display.

Where the 2 Series M Sport sits in the BMW range

Because the 2 Series is the sporty coupé counterpart to the 1 Series hatchback, equipment levels are generally similar, though the 2 Series does come with some extras.

M Sport is the highest trim level, but Sport and entry-level SE trims have also been available over the years.

Besides the performance M2, there are M235i and M240i models that sit above the M Sport, but they’re considered separate models because they don’t fall into the regular BMW trim levels.
