Audi fuel consumption

If fuel efficiency is at the top of your priority list and you’re an Audi fan, thankfully there are some great options out there for you.

Most modern Audi models offer strong fuel economy anyway, thanks to many years of engine and vehicle aerodynamics work.

But which are the best that you should consider? Here are 10 of the most fuel-efficient used Audis money can buy, including a couple of electric car options.

Audi A7 Sportback

Audi A7 fuel economy:

  • Petrol: 32.1-36.7mpg

  • Diesel: 35.3-50.4mpg

  • Hybrid: 32.1-37.2mpg

  • Diesel hybrid: 39.2-40.4mpg

  • PHEV: 176.6-235.4mpg

If you want that coupé-feel but also need practicality for your family of five, look no further than the Audi A7 Sportback.

It’s available with a wide range of engines from the usual petrol and diesels to the higher-spec hybrid, diesel hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV,) which is capable of driving 40 miles on electric power alone and returns up to 235.4mpg.

Additionally, the most efficient Audi A7 version emits 185g/km of CO2, which is measured by the weight in grams and by how much CO2 the exhaust pipe emits per kilometre driven.

Audi Q3

Audi Q3 fuel economy:

  • Petrol: 28-44.8mpg

  • Diesel: 37.7-56.5mpg

  • PHEV: 134.5-176.6mpg

The Audi Q3 is a small SUV that’s great for young families and couples because of its quirky design and great levels of practicality.

It can be had with either a petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid powertrain, and can return up to 176.6mpg in its best variant. It emits 131g/km of CO2 too, which is better than its A7 relative.

You’d be better off opting for the diesel if you tend to drive longer distances, but the standard petrol or PHEV would be best for most people.

Audi A3 fuel economy:

  • Petrol: 37.7-55.4mpg

  • Diesel: 47.1-65.7mpg

  • PHEV: 201.8-256.8mpg

Available as either a hatchback or saloon, the Audi A3 is one of the most versatile and popular models in the brand’s lineup – it’s also economical.

It can be had with the choice of a petrol, diesel or PHEV power unit, all of which are very fuel-efficient, with the top-spec hybrid offering up to 256.8mpg.

The A3 also emits low CO2 figures at 106g/km.

Audi A6

Audi A6 fuel economy:

  • Petrol: 32.5-39.8mpg

  • Diesel: 35.8-52.3mpg

  • PHEV: 201.8-235.4mpg

The Audi A6 can be had as either a saloon or larger estate, making it an ideal car for dog owners or for those who need that extra bootspace for airport runs or weekend getaways.

You have the option of either a petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid for your efficient A6, with the latter offering up to 40 miles of electric-only driving and emitting 35g/km of CO2 emissions thanks to its great hybrid system.

Audi A1

Audi A1 fuel economy:

  • Petrol: 39.8-53.3mpg

Unlike the rest of the cars on this list, the small and plucky Audi A1 is only available with one engine: a petrol.

Older variants were also available as a diesel, which are better longer drives but much less popular.

But despite it having no electrical help, the Audi A1 is very fuel-efficient, offering between 39.8mpg and 53.3mpg from a single tank of fuel.

That places it high up in the rankings of small hatchbacks, meaning it’ll easily suit most people.

Audi Q8 e-tron

  • Audi e-tron electric range: Up to 321 miles

While we can’t exactly talk about MPG figures with electric cars, we can discuss range.

The Audi Q8 e-tron (formerly known as the e-tron) is one of the largest electric SUVs you can buy, and even offers a surprising range for a car that weighs more than 2.5 tonnes.

This is best suited to large families who can make the most of five seats and a large boot.

Audi Q4 e-tron

  • Audi Q4 e-tron electric range: Up to 322 miles

If you like the idea of an all-electric Audi SUV but find the standard e-tron too large, a great alternative is the slightly smaller Q4 e-tron.

Both can seat five people and both offer a similar range of around 320 miles, but the Q4 is just that little bit smaller, making it ideal for city living.

As standard, it’s a rear-wheel-drive car, but opt for the top-spec all-wheel-drive 50 Quattro and you can enjoy greater grip on the road and off-road capabilities, should you want them.

Audi A5

Audi A5 fuel economy:

  • Petrol: 28.8-54.3mpg

  • Diesel: 38.7-58.9mpg

Much like the sleek A7, the Audi A5 is a coupé but aimed more towards sporty driving – especially with the RS5 performance model.

It can be had with either a petrol or diesel engine, with the former offering up to 54.3mpg, and the latter 58.9mpg. This means that no matter which engine you choose, you’ll get excellent fuel economy.

In terms of CO2, the A5 emits 106g/km in its most efficient form.

Audi Q5 fuel economy:

  • Petrol: 30.7-33.6mpg

  • Diesel: 32.8-44.8mpg

  • Hybrid: 32.1-34mpg

  • PHEV: 156.9-188.3mpg

The Audi Q5 is a lot like that one song in your playlist that’s always there and can be listened to no matter what mood you’re in.

It’s one of those mid-sized SUVs that’s easy to live with and very economical, thanks to the geniuses at Audi’s factory.

The Q5 can be had with a whole range of engines including a petrol, diesel, hybrid and the top-of-the-range plug-in hybrid, offering up to 188.3mpg and emitting 165g/km of CO2.

Audi A4

Audi A4 fuel economy:

  • Petrol: 35.3-46.3mpg

  • Diesel: 37.7-60.1mpg

Popular with businesspeople, the Audi A4 is a great saloon (or estate) car for long motorway journeys, especially as a diesel.

We’d say that most people are better off with the petrol, however, which still offers up to 46.3mpg. It also emits 125g/km of CO2 in its most fuel-efficient form.

It’s also great fun to drive and is very grippy in the Quattro all-wheel drive variant.
