There were times when an Audi would almost always be considered better looking than a Volkswagen, but the T-Roc has really closed that gap.
While the Audi is the quintessential German SUV, with a huge grille and plenty of sharp edges, the T-Roc is just as impressive.
The VW brings similarly sharp styling, chunky grilles and intimidating stature, but it definitely feels more family focused.
We think the Audi is sportier and the T-Roc more laidback. Either way, they’re both stunning SUVs.

Behind the wheel or a Q2 or T-Roc is a nice place to be. Both models are comfortable to drive and never sluggish, striking a great balance between road presence and driving dynamics.
As for engines, a brand new Q2 comes with a 1.0-litre or 1.5-litre petrol, with the diesel being dropped from the range.
You’ll get more choice from a brand-new T-Roc, with 1.0-, 1.5-, and 2.0-litre petrol units, plus a rarer 2.0-litre diesel on offer.
For both models we like the mid-range 1.5-litre options. In the T-Roc, that’ll get you 150hp that’s ideal for a medium-sized family SUV, while the 1.5-litre Q2 matches that with 150hp also.

You won’t be surprised at the tech inside these SUVs – it's the modern standard to have plenty of screen space and these models measure up.
The T-Roc is more a functional than flashy. There’s an eight-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus the 10.25-inch digital driver cockpit screen.
It’s a usable set-up in the T-Roc with all you’d need, but it doesn’t feel quite as high quality next to the Audi.
With its bigger infotainment screen and 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit behind the wheel, it’s the Q2 that comes out on top for the interior round.

If you want an SUV then you probably want some practicality in your life, and a lot of that comes from a good-sized boot.
Luckily (or unluckily if you want help to pick between the two) the T-Roc and Q2 are comfortably spacious with plenty of packing space.
The T-Roc has a 445-litre boot, with the Q2 is slightly behind with a 405-litre space. Both of those can be extended with the seats down, to 1,237 litres and 1,050 litres respectively.
There’s plenty of space in the cabins as well, so even backseat passengers won’t feel squished.
Audi Q2 vs. T-Roc: safety and reliability
Good news! Both the T-Roc and Q2 scored the full five-star Euro NCAP safety rating on their last test, so you know they perform well in crash testing.
The not-so-good news is these ratings are now expired, with the T-Roc last tested in 2017 and the Q2 in 2016. Still, it’s a great indicator of how you can expect them to behave in a crash, and they’re both popular so should be tested under the stricter Euro NCAP regulations soon.
Both cars get plenty of safety tech, including reversing cameras, sensors and adaptive cruise control.
They both score well for reliability as well, but the Q2 seems to get the most praise. Long term testing has positive results, and there’s great feedback in the forums as well.
In fairness, they’re likely to be similar for reliability overall, with both being part of the VW Audi Group and built on the same ‘MQB’ platform.

So, it looks like both the Q2 and T-Roc are pretty impressive crossover SUVs.
They’re comfortable, spacious, easy to drive and even easier to live with. You might only be tempted by the extra engine options in the T-Roc line-up, or the flashier interior of the Q2.
