Defining the best sports car isn’t an easy task. There are so many factors to consider, and that’s before you get onto the emotional ones, such as how they each make you feel when behind the wheel.

Below are 10 of our favourite sports cars you can buy in 2025, including a wide breadth of different models from a range of brands, including a cheeky electric entrant.

Top 10 best sports cars in the UK

BMW M2

Under the bonnet is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine that, in standard form, produces an impressive 460hp.

Like all BMWs, it handles nicely and has a smart interior to match. Plus, it’s available with either an automatic or manual gearbox.

Mazda MX-5

Not only does Mazda have skin in the game after making it since 1989, but it’s also the perfect recipe for fun driving, affordability and style.

Its raspy four-cylinder engine produces around 132hp (or there’s the 184hp model, too) and is very characterful, but the real charm comes in the corners, thanks to its rear-wheel drive layout.

Porsche 718 Cayman/Boxster

Porsche 718 Cayman rearIt’s no secret that Porsche makes some of the best cars in the world, but when it comes to sports cars, they take things even more seriously, and the 718 Cayman coupé (and Boxster convertible) are proof of this.

Available with a high-revving six-cylinder engine, the Cayman is a fine driver’s car with a fast-shifting PDK automatic or engaging six-speed manual gearbox.

It also happens to be related to the mighty 911, so if you want one of those but can’t stomach the price tag, a Cayman or Boxster may be a better pick for you.

Toyota GR86

Luckily, Toyota launched the GR86 which is powered by a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 234hp (40hp more than its predecessor).

This is about as basic as a sports car gets, in a good way. It's lightweight (1,280kg) and will bring a smile to your face at every turn.

BMW Z4

a green BMW Z4 M40i HandschalterBMW is well-known for building some of the best sports cars in the world, so it’s no surprise its Z4 convertible made it on this list.

With its smooth 3.0-litre engine and 340hp, it’s no slouch either.

Plus, you get the backing of BMW’s engineers, which are some of the best in the world.

Alpine A110

Powering the A110 is a 1.8-litre turbocharged engine that produces 252hp and can get from 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds.

Name another French sports car with this much character that you can buy new (or nearly new) today... we’ll wait.

Lotus Emira

Power comes from either a four-cylinder or six-cylinder engine borrowed from a Toyota Camry but with much more power and a supercharger bolted on.

This nippy sports car makes driving so much fun, and it really is a perfect companion on a twisty B-road or track day.

Aston Martin Vantage

Aston Martin V12 Vantage 3The Aston Martin Vantage is one of the meanest-looking, hardcore sports cars thanks to its rumbling 665hp 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine.

This makes it one of the most powerful cars you can buy new for less than £200,000 – hardly a bargain, is it?

If you want a car that’ll truly put you in your place, a Vantage will do just that. Maybe bring an extra pair of trousers?

MG Cyberster

The Cyberster is a two-seater all-electric sports car that produces up to 510hp and can propel you from 0-62mph in just 3.2 seconds – that’s quicker than a Ferrari 458.

Not only that but at around £55,000 new and a lot less used, it’s a true steal.

Jaguar F-Type

Jaguar F-Type drivingAvailable in both convertible and coupé forms, the Jaguar F-Type is as versatile as a Swiss army knife.

You can pick between a four-cylinder, V6 and V8 engine, which sound incredible through two or four exhaust pipes.

On the road, they all drive like a dream with a smooth automatic gearbox and sharp handling. They also make for a great motorway cruiser.
