Below are 10 of our favourite sports cars you can buy in 2025, including a wide breadth of different models from a range of brands, including a cheeky electric entrant.

BMW M2
The BMW M2 (based on the 2 Series) has quickly become an icon among motoring circles. It’s one of those cars that captures the attention of BMW and non-BMW enthusiasts thanks to its aggressive looks and impressive performance.
Under the bonnet is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine that, in standard form, produces an impressive 460hp.
Like all BMWs, it handles nicely and has a smart interior to match. Plus, it’s available with either an automatic or manual gearbox.

Mazda MX-5
If it’s two-seater sports car fun you’re after, a Mazda MX-5 should be top of your list.
Not only does Mazda have skin in the game after making it since 1989, but it’s also the perfect recipe for fun driving, affordability and style.
Its raspy four-cylinder engine produces around 132hp (or there’s the 184hp model, too) and is very characterful, but the real charm comes in the corners, thanks to its rear-wheel drive layout.

Porsche 718 Cayman/Boxster
It’s no secret that Porsche makes some of the best cars in the world, but when it comes to sports cars, they take things even more seriously, and the 718 Cayman coupé (and Boxster convertible) are proof of this.
Available with a high-revving six-cylinder engine, the Cayman is a fine driver’s car with a fast-shifting PDK automatic or engaging six-speed manual gearbox.
It also happens to be related to the mighty 911, so if you want one of those but can’t stomach the price tag, a Cayman or Boxster may be a better pick for you.

Toyota GR86
The GT86 was a big success for Toyota as a rear-wheel drive sports car, but many complained it was underpowered.
Luckily, Toyota launched the GR86 which is powered by a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 234hp (40hp more than its predecessor).
This is about as basic as a sports car gets, in a good way. It's lightweight (1,280kg) and will bring a smile to your face at every turn.

BMW Z4
BMW is well-known for building some of the best sports cars in the world, so it’s no surprise its Z4 convertible made it on this list.
With its smooth 3.0-litre engine and 340hp, it’s no slouch either.
Plus, you get the backing of BMW’s engineers, which are some of the best in the world.

Alpine A110
For a long time, the Porsche Cayman sat at the top of the premium sports car tree, but in 2017, the relaunched Alpine A110 came along, and this is a company that owns a Formula One team.
Powering the A110 is a 1.8-litre turbocharged engine that produces 252hp and can get from 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds.
Name another French sports car with this much character that you can buy new (or nearly new) today... we’ll wait.
Lotus Emira
The Lotus Emira is Britain’s answer to the Alpine, except it comes with either an automatic or manual gearbox for even more enjoyment and versatility.
Power comes from either a four-cylinder or six-cylinder engine borrowed from a Toyota Camry but with much more power and a supercharger bolted on.
This nippy sports car makes driving so much fun, and it really is a perfect companion on a twisty B-road or track day.

Aston Martin Vantage
The Aston Martin Vantage is one of the meanest-looking, hardcore sports cars thanks to its rumbling 665hp 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine.
This makes it one of the most powerful cars you can buy new for less than £200,000 – hardly a bargain, is it?
If you want a car that’ll truly put you in your place, a Vantage will do just that. Maybe bring an extra pair of trousers?
MG Cyberster
Electric sports cars are few and far between, not because they’re not fast but because of the added weight and cost. But this is where MG steps in.
The Cyberster is a two-seater all-electric sports car that produces up to 510hp and can propel you from 0-62mph in just 3.2 seconds – that’s quicker than a Ferrari 458.
Not only that but at around £55,000 new and a lot less used, it’s a true steal.

Jaguar F-Type
Available in both convertible and coupé forms, the Jaguar F-Type is as versatile as a Swiss army knife.
You can pick between a four-cylinder, V6 and V8 engine, which sound incredible through two or four exhaust pipes.
On the road, they all drive like a dream with a smooth automatic gearbox and sharp handling. They also make for a great motorway cruiser.
