Fastest SUVs under £50k
Take a look at some of our top picks for the fastest affordable SUV options under £50k
The rise in popularity of SUVs has also seen an increase in demand for fast versions.
Almost every manufacturer that makes SUVs also sells a faster, more powerful variant – usually at a premium.
But for £50k, you can get some great examples of quick SUVs on the used market.
And don't worry if you can’t pay for it outright – there are car finance options available, too.
BMW X3
If you like a large and luxurious SUV that can also be speedy when you want it to be, a used BMW X3 is a great option.
From its prestigious badge on the bonnet to its comfortable interior, we can’t think of a better mid-sized SUV to buy than the X3 – especially at this price point. Its closest rival is the Range Rover Evoque, but is it as good?
£50,000 would get you a very high-end, modern petrol, hybrid, diesel, or electric example, and would leave you with some cash to spare in many instances.
Porsche Macan
The Porsche Macan is one of the brand’s best-selling vehicles worldwide, and it isn’t hard to see why.
Because of its size, it’s almost more of a hatchback than an SUV, which appeals to buyers who aren’t ready to make the jump to large SUVs like the Cayenne, for example.
There isn’t an electric version yet, but Porsche is planning to release one in the coming years, which makes the existing petrol and diesel ones exciting propositions on the used car market.
Tesla Model X
Leading the electric vehicle charge and remaining at the top of the league is Tesla, and this is mostly thanks to its incredible all-electric Model X SUV.
This spaceship-like car, with its falcon-wing rear doors and remarkable interior technology, helped put Tesla on the global map.
Not only that, but it would annihilate almost any supercar when accelerating in a straight line, which is made possible by its 0-62mph time of 2.5 seconds.
Learn more about EVs:
Jaguar I-Pace
The second electric car on this list isn’t a surprise entry – the Jaguar I-Pace has been very popular since its release in 2018.
As well as an impressive overall range of around 300 miles, you’re also getting a luxurious SUV that is dead silent.
This used Jaguar also knocks your socks off when you want it to, thanks to its EV party trick of instant torque when you put your foot down.
Range Rover Sport
It doesn’t really get much better than a used Range Rover when it comes to the ever-growing SUV market.
Not only are they very practical, but they’re also luxurious, comfortable and fast when they need to be.
The Sport variant is the one to go for if you want to get places quickly and smoothly.
The Sport can be had as either a petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid, and we think all variants are great options – but you will get the best performance from the V8 petrol.
Mercedes-Benz GLC 63 AMG S
As it stands, the ordinary Mercedes GLC is a cracking SUV. It’s practical, affordable (as large SUVs go), comfortable and great to drive. But if you want one that’s a bit fruitier, then the AMG version is the one to have.
The GLC AMG S is a rare beast and not something you’d see every day, but if you can get your hands on this used Mercedes, you’ll be laughing.
It’s powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 510hp. This allows it to get from 0-62mph in a staggering 3.8 seconds, embarrassing most sports cars today.
BMW X5 M
Like the smaller GLC, the standard BMW X5 is a fantastic SUV. Not only is it as imposing as they get, it also offers remarkable comfort, interior tech and speed.
But if you want the next step up, then the X5 M is the only viable solution.
Power comes from a monstrous twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 that produces 567hp and 553Ib ft of torque, which helps launch this 2.3-tonne SUV from 0-62mph in just 4.2 seconds.
