Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate boot space
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate offers a luxurious, executive driving experience. But how practical is the boot?
Sleek, modern and comfortable, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class offers everything that Mercedes as a brand has become synonymous with.
The Estate version of the car maintains the luxury and adds both practicality and versatility – no wonder this car rates as one of the most desirable estates on the road.
Don’t assume that the practicality it offers takes away from the fun you can feel driving it. The E-Class Estate can go from 0-62mph in just 7.8 seconds, and its high-quality and spacious cabin means you get a quiet driving experience.
It also boasts the quality interiors that you’d expect from a Merc, from the leather upholstery to the modern infotainment dashboard with two 12.3-inch screens for entertainment, navigation and speedometer.
Because it’s a Mercedes-Benz, quality, luxury and tech come as standard even with the entry-level models. What else would you expect?
How big is a Mercedes E-Class Estate boot?
To put it simply, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate’s boot is big. Really big.
There’s loads of space in the petrol and diesel versions, with more than 640 litres available – and that’s before you fold the rear seats down, which increases capacity to a vast 1,820 litres.
No matter what you’re travelling with, from shopping to surfboards, there’ll be room for it– in fact, the E-Class Estate even has room for a wooden pallet to fit between the wheel arches.
While the hybrid version has slightly less due to space required for the battery, 480 litres is still a decent amount of space, and you still get 1,660 litres with the rear seats down.
If you want that all-important extra bit of room, you can adjust the rear seats by making the backrest a tad more vertical – perfect for if you’re carrying boxes.
The rear seat bench splits in a 40/20/40 arrangement, which means you can still have two passengers in the back while carrying a longer load pushed through the boot area.
To take the faff out of the loading process, most Mercedes-Benz E-Class models have a powered tailgate, so you won’t have to put down those boxes to lock the car.
How many seats are in a Mercedes E-Class?
Both the saloon and estate editions of the E-Class come with five seats as standard. The coupé has one less with four seats fitted.
For families with kids still needing car seats, both the saloon and estate E-Class have ISOFIX points on the outer rear seats.

What can you fit in a Mercedes E-Class Estate boot?
Should you opt for the standard fuel-powered estate option, you’ll have plenty of room to play with.
With the seats up, you’ll benefit from a generous 640 litres, which is more than enough to fit suitcases, golf bags, a foldable pushchair, or a large-size dog. Some models even come with a cargo net to prevent your items from sliding about – essential when the boot space is this vast.
And, if you fold your seats down, you can enjoy an impressive 1,820 litres (1,660 litres if it’s the hybrid estate). With all that available space, you can ferry large pieces of furniture around town or store all the right camping gear for your next rural adventure.
