Nissan Qashqai MPG and running costs

The Nissan Qashqai is a popular family SUV – but how does it measure up for fuel efficiency?

article hero

A used Nissan Qashqai will tick boxes for many things, including its reliability, practicality and impressive running costs.

This spacious SUV is an ideal family car thanks to its impressive ability to really stretch a tank of fuel.

Added hybrid technology also means that an electric motor and battery can support the Qashqai’s internal combustion engine to give you an extra boost.

With an impressive lineup of miles per gallon (MPG) statistics, the Qashqai is ideal for cutting back on running costs.

What does MPG stand for?

MPG stands for ‘miles per gallon’ and is an indicator of how many miles a vehicle can travel per gallon of fuel.

MPG statistics vary across different cars, with large and heavy models usually having lower MPG statistics than smaller city cars.

Many manufacturers have made efforts to improve MPG for their vehicles, taking steps to reduce the vehicle’s weight and adding hybrid technology.

A figure around 40mpg is usually a good indicator of an efficient car.

There are a few different Nissan Qashqai engines in the range and each one gets a unique MPG rating.

You can choose from diesel, hybrid and petrol engines with mild hybrid tech, although diesels are now only available on the used market.

Mild-hybrid Nissan Qashqai MPG

  • 1.4-litre mild hybrid WLTP: up to 44.5mpg

Diesel Nissan Qashqai MPG

  • 1.5-litre dCi 115 DCT: up to 52.1mpg

e-Power Hybrid Nissan Qashqai MPG

  • E-Power self-charging hybrid: 53.3mpg

Nissan Qashqai running costs

The Nissan Qashqai is widely considered a reliable car, coming with a three-year (or 60,000-mile) manufacturer warranty from brand-new.

This means that Nissan has faith the Qashqai is built to last, and customer reviews confirm this.

The Qashqai was awarded a full five-star Euro NCAP safety rating on its 2021 test, with a 91% adult occupant rating and 91% for children as well.

Road tax starts at around £170 annually for Qashqai models, with most options costing around £180.

This is average when compared to similar models but can go up in price with the flashier trims.

Other maintenance costs are manageable as well, with Nissan parts being widely available and the Qashqai itself being a popular car that isn’t difficult to work on.

While you shouldn’t have to make frequent repairs outside of normal wear and tear maintenance, parts like tyres and brakes won’t break the bank.

You’ll also have to consider servicing and MOTs for your Qashqai. While servicing isn’t a legal requirement in the UK, it’s recommended to keep your car in the best condition.

The advice is to service your car regularly, and prices will depend on the type of servicing you choose.

In the UK, no MOT test should cost more than £54.85, based on government requirements.

You’ll find that test prices differ based on where in the UK you are based, and this cost doesn’t cover parts and repairs.
