What size is the Tesla Model Y’s boot space?

A Tesla model with plenty of passenger space, but how much can you fit in the boot?

Tesla is an innovator in the world of the electric car, and the Tesla Model Y is the brand’s second foray into the SUV market.

There are currently four models of Tesla available: the Tesla Model 3; Tesla Model S; the top-of-the-range Tesla Model X with its rear gull-wing doors; and the Tesla Model Y.

Based on the Model 3 platform, the Model Y is the smaller sibling to the Model X.

Available as a five- or a seven-seater SUV with an upgrade, there’s ample room in a used Tesla Model Y.

Big enough for family trips but small and nimble enough for any city driving, this versatile car is available with either standard or long-range performance in mind, depending on your preference.

With expanding cargo options and a high focus on protection, a used Tesla Model Y won’t let you down – that’s why it won the Best Car for Families 2023 by Autotrader.

It keeps its value too, backed up by its winning of the 2023 Autovista Group Residual Value Award.

What are the Tesla Model Y’s boot space dimensions?

A used Model Y provides you with decent boot space for all your storage needs.

Whether you choose a five- or seven-door variant, you can expect good space in your Tesla Model Y's boot.

Tesla Model Y five-seater dimensions

  • Maximum rear boot space (rear seats upright): 854 litres

  • Maximum rear boot space (rear seats folded): 2,041 litres

  • Maximum front boot space: 117 litres

  • Maximum storage space (with all five passengers): 971 litres

Tesla Model Y seven-seater dimensions

  • Maximum rear boot space (all seats upright): 363 litres

  • Maximum rear boot space (third row of seats folded): 753 litres

  • Maximum rear boot space (second and third row of seats folded): 1,923 litres

  • Maximum front boot space: 117 litres

  • Maximum storage space (with all seven passengers): 480 litres

How big is a Tesla Model Y’s boot space?

The Tesla Model Y’s boot space offers plenty of room for whatever you need.

Not only does it have the standard boot area, but as an electric car, you can also use the front boot as storage. This is the perfect place for your charging cables.

The 2,041-litre space in the Model Y is more than enough for whatever you need to pack, while the flat folding of the seats makes packing your Tesla easy.

How many seats are in a Tesla Model Y?

The Tesla Model Y comes with either five or seven seats, depending on your preference.

With 1,041mm of headroom in the front seats for both variants, and 1,062mm of legroom, there is plenty of space for you and your front-seat passenger to share.

The further back in rows, the less the legroom, meaning that in the third row of the seven-seater, there's 673mm of space but there are extra underfloor areas behind the rear seats, which are very useful.

This means the rear rows would be more comfortable for smaller passengers, such as children.

And with the ISOFIX points available in the outer rear seats, it's the perfect family car for all ages.

The seats are in a 40/20/20 folding arrangement and are folded with a push of a button in the boot.

This means you can extend the Tesla Model Y’s boot space and carry longer loads.

The easy access also makes climbing into the third row a breeze.
