The Toyota Corolla is one of the most well-loved, best-selling cars in the world. Is the boot one of the reasons why it’s so popular? Let’s take a look.

A used Toyota Corolla is an excellent value-for-money car – especially if you’re looking for a small, compact vehicle that ticks all the right boxes.

The Corolla is perfect for day-to-day trips around town and across city centres, but it’s also a reliable option for longer motorway journeys or scenic drives along country lanes.

All newer models have a standard eight-inch touchscreen, powered by Toyota’s Touch 2 infotainment system.

This includes handy features such as Apple CarPlay or Android Auto connectivity, which should make your driving experience that bit more enjoyable.

The latest versions to be released are the Toyota Corolla hybrid models. If you’re determined to do your bit for the environment, listen up.

The hybrids come with a CVT gearbox, which stands for continuously variable transmission.

This means the transmission automatically selects the right gear while you drive.

Although you do get a bit of a drone from the engine when accelerating, the CVT offers improved vehicle performance and a more direct response when you hit the accelerator.

When it comes to boot space, don’t worry – you’ll get plenty of boot room to fit all your essentials.

So, if you’re going on holiday or to the supermarket, your suitcases and shopping bags will squeeze in just fine.

How long and wide is a Toyota Corolla?

Because of its exterior size and length of 4370mm, the Toyota Corolla hatchback is classed as a compact car - perfect for small driveways and new drivers.

What are the Toyota Corolla boot dimensions?

Currently, the Toyota Corolla is available in two different types of hybrid engine. There’s the 1.8-litre hybrid car that produces 122hp, while the 2.0-litre option reaches 184hp.

They’re both great if you want a vehicle that gets you out and about at an affordable cost.

However, the latter will give you a little more performance, while still maintaining good fuel economy.

The Corolla also has two different body styles – hatchback and estate. It’s worth bearing in mind that this will affect the size of the boot.

Toyota Corolla hatchback dimensions

  • Load width: 1,100mm circa

  • Boot capacity (rear seats upright): 313 litres

  • Boot capacity (rear seats folded): 1,052 litres

Toyota Corolla estate dimensions

  • Load width: 1,200mm circa

  • Boot capacity (rear seats upright): 581 litres

  • Boot capacity (rear seats folded): 1,606 litres

If you’re after a bigger boot to ferry your bulky loads, a Corolla estate could be the right car for you. It’s particularly good if you love going on solo adventures or group trips with friends.

How big is a Toyota Corolla boot?

Whichever Toyota Corolla model you choose, you’ll enjoy plenty of space.

Need to do the weekly shop? The Corolla hatchback gives you 313 litres of space with its seats kept upright. Fold down the rear seats and you’ll have 1,052 litres of room to play with.

If you’re used to transporting larger items, then the estate option would be right up your street.

How much luggage can you fit in a Toyota Corolla?

If you're someone who makes a lot of road trips, you’ll appreciate knowing you can fit up to three large suitcases and a few small bags in the boot.

In the estate version, you’ll benefit from a boot capacity of 581 litres with the back seats in place. You can also fold the rear seats flat and extend your boot space to an impressive 1,606 litres.

Meanwhile, in the hatchback version of the Toyota Corolla, the available boot capacity is 361 litres with the back seats in place, and 1,052 litres without them.

That should give you enough room to fit a foldable bike, a canoe, a large dog crate or – if you’re moving house – a stack of boxes.

How many seats are in a Toyota Corolla?

Technically, it’s a five-seater, and while those in the front will enjoy plenty of space, it’s quite snug in the rear when it comes to headroom and legroom.

However, for couples or families with small children, the rear seats should be just fine.
