New Jaguar Type 00 concept car revealed

Unveiled at the 2024 Miami Art Week, this concept gives us a flavour of what’s to come as Jaguar moves to an all-electric future

Jaguar Type 00 side profile

Jaguar unveiled its new concept car at the 2024 Miami Art Week on 2 December, teasing its future after the recent rebrand and announcing it’ll stop making new cars immediately.

The Type 00 features a brash and futuristic design that aims to ‘challenge convention’ and ‘copy nothing’.

Like the rebrand, this concept has caused quite a stir on social media as life-long Jaguar fans share their thoughts on this drastic change.

Unpicking Jaguar’s new design language

Upon first glance, this concept car is like no other Jaguar we’ve ever seen before.

Gone are the days of sleek styling and instead a hyper-modernised future is upon us.

This very minimalist exterior with boxy shapes and sharp angles is a bit like what some other brands are doing, such as Tesla with the Cybertruck and Toyota with the new Land Cruiser.

Keeping with the brand’s muscular cat theme, the Type 00 does have very wide wheel arches for an aggressive stance, and big wheels that fit with modern car design where 23-inch wheels are the norm on SUVs.

Just behind the front wheels is a section of bodywork that opens to reveal what looks like added storage space.

There also appears to be no rear window, which could be high-tech glass that tints itself or a hint that a camera will replace the traditional rear window like on the Polestar 4

When’s Jaguar’s new car coming out?

Jaguar Type 00 storageWe’ll have to wait until 2026 to see the first examples of Jaguar’s new electric car era on the road.

Jaguar estimates it'll be able to do 430 miles on a single charge, with rapid charging capabilities offering 200 miles in just 15 minutes.

Its latest road car has already begun testing and is expected to cost north of £100,000 which makes it a keen rival for the Porsche Taycan and BMW i Series.
