Porsche 718 Boxster - cinch Weekend Wheels

We're in for a hot and sunny weekend, so naturally, we've been drooling over one of the best open-top sports car on the market. The Porsche 718 Boxster is a thing of real beauty. A finely built machine that oozes class while also giving you proper sports car performance and fingertip reactivity – plus its soft-top roof makes it perfect for those spring and summer drives.

The Boxster has been a star of Porsche's mid-range since the first one came along way back in 1996. While being oh-so pretty, the car’s biggest strength is actually its brilliant handling and engaging performance. The more affordable 2.0-litre petrol model in our online-showroom is the baby of the range, but it still delivers 299hp – reaching 62mph in 5.3 seconds. Better still, the steering is crisp and responsive, working with a pinpoint chassis to make you feel at one with the car.

The 718 Boxster (it gained 718 in its name when Porsche launched this latest generation in 2016) continues Porsche’s trend of creating driver-focused interiors. You get a 7.0-inch touchscreen with all of the essentials, like Bluetooth, DAB, sat-nav and Apple CarPlay. Our car here also comes with an powerful Bose sound system with ten high-end speakers, if the burble of that 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine isn't enough for your ears.

Also, don't be fooled by the Boxster's relatively small footprint; this car is surprisingly practical. Granted, it’s a two-seater, but both driver and passenger have plenty of legroom and headroom… limitless headspace in fact if the roof is down! Although the boot space is obviously limited, you do have the luxury of being to use a pretty deep boot at the front of the car (which we're calling a froot) as well as the one at the rear, which is very handy.
