It's all well and good getting a bargain on your used Fiesta, but you need to keep in mind the running costs, too – that's why it's key to know the Ford Fiesta insurance groups

With the cost of living going up, it's more important than ever to save money on things you can control, such as car insurance and fuel costs.

There's a reason the Ford Fiesta is one of the most popular cars in the UK. It's good value for money, economical, robust and great to drive – a great choice for your heart and your head (and your wallet, too).

Ford Fiesta insurance group ratings

The first thing to remember is that the cost of your car insurance will massively depend on your individual circumstances. Here are some of the factors that come into it:

  • Driving history (including previous car insurance claims)

  • Job title

  • Predicted annual mileage

All isn’t lost, though – you can get cheaper Ford Fiesta car insurance by choosing a model in a lower insurance group.

Models are placed in these groups based on things like the car’s cost and engine size, and they indicate the cost of insurance.

Insurance groups start at one and go up to 50, with the highest groups being more expensive to insure.

Ford Fiesta insurance groups range from two to 30, depending on the model you choose.

The Fiesta Style, Style+ and Trend models are usually the cheapest to insure, ranging from groups two to 13.

Zetec, Standard Trim, and Titanium models range from insurance groups five to 16, while the sporty Fiesta ST is likely going to be the most expensive to insure in group 30.

Most models sit in the lower insurance groups, so you know they’re going to be cheap to insure. You might want to stay away from the ST if keeping running costs really low is your main priority.

Getting cheaper Ford Fiesta car insurance

While Ford Fiesta insurance groups have a big impact on the cost, there are a few things you can do to lower the price.

  • Cut down your annual mileage to be seen as lower risk

  • Add another experienced driver to your policy

  • Choose a safer location to store your car overnight

  • Consider black box insurance to get discounts

  • Get quotes to find the best deal

Most affordable Fiesta models to insure

The cheapest Ford Fiesta car insurance will typically be for the smallest engines and entry-level trim options.

Ford Fiesta Style

The Ford Fiesta Style 1.1 Ti-VCT three-door and five-door models are in group two, so they will be some of the cheapest to get covered.

Ford Fiesta Trend

The Fiesta 1.1 Trend Ti-VCT 75PS is in group four and will be another cheap insurance pick, thanks to its smaller engine.

Ford Fiesta ST

The priciest Fiestas to insure will be the most expensive models to buy with larger engines.

Although we love its sporty vibes, the Ford Fiesta 1.5 EcoBoost ST Edition is in group 30 and will be a more expensive pick for insurance.

Ford Fiesta EcoBoost Hybrid

While not quite as high as the ST Edition, the 1.0 EcoBoost Hybrid mHEV ST-Line Vignale sits in group 20 and will also be one of the pricier picks to insure.

Average Fiesta insurance cost for young drivers

Ford Fiesta insurance costs depend on a few factors, so it’s hard to say exactly how much it will cost for young drivers.

Drivers with less experience will typically have to pay more for their car insurance, so that might make Fiesta insurance slightly more expensive.

On the whole, Fiesta insurance can be cheap for young drivers. That’s especially true if you choose a model in a low insurance group, like a Fiesta Style or Style+.

The Fiesta is massively popular with young people, so that’s a great indicator that it won’t be too pricey to get covered.

The best thing you can do is get a Ford Fiesta car insurance quote to see if it suits your budget.

How Fiesta insurance prices compare to rivals

Rivals of the Ford Fiesta are similar in car insurance costs. As the models have similar size engines and are around the same cost, there’s no reason for them to be much more expensive.

The Renault Clio (2019 onwards) sits in insurance groups three to 29, while the Volkswagen Polo (2017 onwards) ranges from group one to 15, or up to 29 for the Polo GTi.

The Peugeot 208 (2019 onwards) is slightly higher in groups 12 to 28, similar to the Audi A1 (2018 onwards) in groups 14 to 31.

How cheap are Fiestas to insure compared to other Ford models?

The Ford Focus is another popular Ford model that can be reasonable to insure. It typically ranges from insurance groups 8 to 21, so can be very level with the Fiesta. The Focus ST can sit in insurance groups 23 to 34, with the RS sitting as high as group 38.

The Ford SUV line-up is receiving a lot of attention these days, with the Kuga being a top pick. Insurance groups typically range from 10 to 26, so choosing a lower group model can mean it costs about the same to insure as a Fiesta, depending on your individual quote.

Similarly, the Puma sits in groups 11 to 21. That’s not a huge difference from top-end Fiesta pricing, but it’s not as cheap as a group two Fiesta will be.
