What is the BMW 2 Series Sport?

The BMW 2 Series first came about in 2014, when the 1 Series Coupé became the 2 Series Coupé. The change included some major styling enhancements.

As well as a coupé model, you can also get a convertible. Both have rear seats good enough for the kids, plus a pretty decent boot given this car’s sporty nature.

The Sport trim level was only offered on previous-generation F22 models sold between 2014 and 2021, because the newer car is only available in M Sport or higher.

What are the BMW 2 Series Sport specs?

Many engines were available throughout this car’s production period, but we think the pick of the bunch is the 190hp 2.0-litre diesel, badged 220d. It feels pretty quick, but 50mpg shouldn’t be too hard to achieve.

There’s also a 150hp diesel, badged 218d, and a 224hp diesel, badged 225hp. They both use similar 2.0-litre engines.

Some popular petrol picks include the 184hp 220i, which uses a 2.0-litre engine, and the 136hp 1.5-litre model, badged 218i.

Used BMW 2 Series Sport features and equipment

Standard equipment on Sport models includes upgraded alloy wheels and a sportier makeover outside, such as black detailing and distinctive exhaust pipes. Some more powerful models also get better brakes.

It’s worth noting that all models get rear parking sensors, automatic lights and wipers and a large iDrive screen – one of the best infotainment systems around. Newer cars also get bright LED headlights.

BMWs are known for having many optional extras, so while a standard 2 Series Sport is a good choice, look out for upgrades such as dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, a reversing camera, heated seats, front parking sensors, adaptive cruise control and even a glass sunroof on the coupé model.

Where the 2 Series Sport sits in the BMW range

BMW’s trim levels are simple, and the same is true for the 2 Series, where Sport represents the middle of the range.

Entry-level SE cars come with almost as much equipment, and M Sport versions add more attractive styling.
