Start nowA used Hyundai Santa Fe is a brilliantly priced seven-seater SUV that stands out among other popular models on the market.
The Hyundai Santa Fe is a superb affordable alternative to more premium vehicles from brands such as Land Rover and Mercedes-Benz.
Ever since its launch, the Santa Fe has offered amazing value for money and has sat under the radar, going mostly unnoticed. But now, it's the go-to family SUV for many, and it isn’t hard to see why.
It offers incredible practicality, comfort, space, fuel economy, reliability and safety. This makes it the perfect option for many motorists, especially families in need of something practical but enjoyable.

The Santa Fe’s main rivals are the Peugeot 5008, Skoda Kodiaq, Kia Sorento and Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace. You’ll find a range of trim levels available for used Hyundai Santa Fe cars, but all are exceptionally well-equipped, and the highest versions verge on real luxury.
Popular Hyundai Santa Fe trims
You’ll only find a small selection of trim levels available for the Santa Fe, but they’re all highly equipped and loaded with car tech.
> Hyundai Santa Fe Premium - Entry-level model with self-levelling suspension, LED headlights, keyless entry and adaptive cruise control
> Hyundai Santa Fe Ultimate - Top-spec version with heads-up display, panoramic sunroof and cooled front seats
Hyundai Santa Fe history
There have now been five iterations of the Hyundai Santa Fe, each improving in popularity as well as style and quality.
> Third-generation Hyundai Santa Fe (2012) - Well-equipped model with stylish looks and comfortable ride
> Fourth-generation Hyundai Santa Fe (2018) - Modern-looking update with a noticeable jump up in quality and luxury
> Facelifted Hyundai Santa Fe (2020) - Minor redesign and new hybrid and plug-in hybrid options available
> Fifth-generation Hyundai Santa Fe (2023) - Totally redesigned, boxy-looking styling similar to the electric Kia EV9
Like the Hyundai Santa Fe’s new swanky exterior, the inside of this SUV is very stylish indeed.
Early entry-level Santa Fe SE models got climate control plus front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera. The Santa Fe Premium model added to that, with extras like self-levelling suspension and heated front seats.
The newer Santa Fe introduced a large 10.25-inch touchscreen display and a 12.3-inch digital instrument display to replace the car’s traditional dials, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
There are also three rows of seating – seating seven people comfortably – and because this is longer than the previous model, it offers increased legroom for all passengers.
Its boot measures 625 litres in its five-seat layout, which is more than enough space for luggage and shopping bags.
When all seats are folded flat, you can expect to find a total of 1,625 litres, and with the Santa Fe’s wide and low boot opening, you can easily slide larger items through.
Being a Hyundai, a used Santa Fe is a very reliable car and ranks highly among well-recognised consumer surveys.
The same goes for safety because the Santa Fe scored five stars following its Euro NCAP crash testing.
There’s no escaping the fact that the Santa Fe is a large and heavy car, but the 2.2-litre diesel does a good job of keeping running costs within reason.
The hybrid models can be even more efficient, especially if you have access to a home charger in the case of the plug-in hybrid variant.
However, many used Hyundai Santa Fe models, including top-spec variants, sit in comparably low insurance groups, making them cheaper to insure than their premium counterparts, despite the fact that the Hyundai does have a premium feel about it.
A used Hyundai Santa Fe is a car you can buy with both your brain and your head because it’s economical and affordable but is loaded with kit and creature comforts. It’s an excellent pick for larger families or those who live an active lifestyle and need a lot of boot space.
Its main rivals include the Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sorento and Honda CR-V.
It is possible to get a used Hyundai Santa Fe on finance and spread the cost, but the prices will depend on the model you choose and the type of car finance.

Not all models come with four-wheel drive, so it's worth checking before you choose your next vehicle.
The Hyundai Santa Fe’s towing capacity is a generous 2,500kg, which is plenty to tow a caravan.
The Santa Fe can go off-road, but it should be noted that it isn’t designed to do so. It will, however, happily do the occasional stint off the beaten track.
All Santa Fe models from 2017 onwards come with Apple CarPlay connectivity.
