Range Rover Velar
Use our Help Me Choose tool to go from 1000s of cars to just a handful of recommendations — and cinch your search.
Start nowThe Range Rover Velar came onto the premium SUV scene in 2017 and has been a great success for Land Rover.
It stands out from the crowd because it doesn’t follow the same sports coupé shape seen on other cars of its calibre. Instead, it offers a grown-up and sleek design that’s popular with luxury car fans.
The Velar sits between the smaller Evoque and larger Sport models across Land Rover’s Range Rover lineup, and features mature styling and a mid-range price tag when new.
Popular Range Rover Velar trims
There are about three core trim levels, but there are also some sporty-looking variants of those, such as R-Dynamic branded models.
> Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic S - Popular and stylish, loaded with kit but still affordable
> Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic SE - Mid-spec car with the sporty makeover and even more kit
> Range Rover Velar HSE - Luxurious and high-tech range-topper, also available in R-Dynamic trim
Compare the Range Rover Velar vs. Range Rover Evoque
Range Rover Velar history
The Range Rover Velar first went on sale in 2017, and so far, only one generation has been available, but there have been plenty of updates.
> First-generation Range Rover Velar (2017) - Stylish and more affordable alternative to the Range Rover Sport
> Facelifted Range Rover Velar (2023) - Minor changes including upgraded car tech
Previously, higher-spec models had a pair of touchscreen displays on the centre console to control the car’s systems and another digital display behind the wheel. Facelifted models only have one central display, but it controls everything the two would have, and it’s a better system.
Standard kit across the range includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, parking sensors, a reversing camera, a powered boot lid, dual-zone climate control and plenty of safety kit, so there’s little need to upgrade.
The 513-litre boot is pretty average for this type of car, but it doesn’t have much of a loading lip and the seats fold flat, so it’s very useable.
Range Rovers have had their fair share of reliability concerns, but the Velar shares its parts with solid models like the Discovery and Range Rover Sport so you know it's tried and tested.
Although you can get a plug-in hybrid, its electric range of 30-40 miles isn’t quite as good as other, newer Range Rovers. Many drivers are better off getting a diesel model, especially those with mild hybrid tech, which can prove reasonably efficient.
A used Range Rover Velar for sale is an appealing model for those after a slice of luxury, but because it might not be as expensive as you’d think, it makes for a good family SUV.
Its main competitors would be the BMW X6, Porsche Cayenne and Mercedes GLE Coupé.
Range Rovers have had their share of reliability concerns, but the Velar shares its parts with solid models like the Discovery and Range Rover Sport so you know it's tried and tested. It's a luxury SUV you can rely on.
You can get a used Velar on finance if you want to spread the cost, but prices will depend on the model you choose and the terms of your finance contract.
The Velar came out in 2017 and has received minor facelifts since then.
Some Velar models come with a large panoramic roof that lets more light into the cabin to create an airier feel.
If this is a deal-breaker for you, we would suggest looking at the photos and spec sheets of our available Velar models.
The Velar has Apple CarPlay, which appears on the upper middle screen sitting in the centre of the dashboard.
