Unlike its Tesla rivals, the brand’s CEO says the Polestar 2 is not chasing rapid 0-62mph times and instead prides itself on build quality and the overall ownership experience. 

It’s had a facelift too, which means you get more tech, range and slightly different looks.

The Polestar 2 comes in a few different flavours to suit your desires, here are some of the most popular trims: 

> Polestar 2 Standard Range – it may be the base-spec, but it gets all the essentials you need in an electric car, as well as a claimed 322-mile range, which is monstrous 

> Polestar 2 Long Range – in single- or dual-motor form, this is by far the most popular variant with a claimed range of up to 406 miles 

> Polestar 2 Long Range Dual motor with Performance Pack – like the Long Range, this also gets a beefy range, but with Öhlins dampers, Brembo brakes, 20-inch forged alloy wheels and the all-important gold seat belts 

Polestar 2 history 

Polestar hasn’t been making electric cars all that long, and being the second model, the Polestar 2 isn’t very old either. But it’s still seen some improvements over the years. 

> First-generation Polestar 2 (2020-2023) - offering Volvo XC40-like space with proper electric car performance, this car was the talk of the town, and finally a worthy Tesla rival 

> Facelifted Polestar 2 (2023-present) - with more power, range and looks, this is the car to have if you’re looking for the best of the best 

What features does the Polestar 2 have?

When you sit inside the Polestar 2, it may feel like a Volvo, and that’s because the Polestar brand is owned by the Swedish giant.   

This means it shares many components, but the highlights are the large 11.1-inch touchscreen infotainment screen run by Google, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.  

You can even have an optional electric tow bar fitted.  

If you have a bit more cash to spend, the £4,000 Plus Pack is a must-have. For this, you get an uprated Harmon Kardon sound system, fully electric seats, tinted glass, an improved air quality system, a panoramic roof and an adjustable boot floor.  

It’s the ultimate Polestar flex. 

Is the Polestar 2 reliable?

Being electric, a used Polestar 2 is a very reliable car. This is because it has fewer moving parts than an internal combustion engine car, and therefore there’s less that can go wrong.  

As for the battery pack, these get an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty. However, if the battery health drops below 70% in those first eight years, Polestar will replace it free of charge.  

Following its most recent Euro NCAP crash test, the Polestar 2 scored a full five stars, thanks to safety features such as automatic emergency braking (AEB), ISOFIX child seat mounting points and airbags.   

Being closely related to a Volvo, we didn’t have any doubts about its safety capabilities. 

How much does the Polestar 2 cost to run?

The cost of running and living with an electric car varies massively to a petrol or diesel car.  

Because it doesn’t have the same servicing needs, you’re likely to spend less on a used Polestar 2.  

There’s a range of motor and battery combinations on offer, starting with the Standard Range’s 67kWh battery pack mated to a rear-mounted motor that produces 271hp and 490Nm of torque.   

This gives you up to 339 miles on a full charge, with rapid charging capabilities up to 135kW, getting from 10% to 80% in around 35 minutes.  

If you want power, the Performance Pack with 476hp is the one to have, but if you’d prefer more range then the Long Range version gets 406 miles.  

With prices varying across the country, it’s impossible to say how much it will cost to charge, but as a rule of thumb, charging at home is cheaper, and using a public fast charger will cost around 80p/kWh. 

Who is the Polestar 2 suitable for?

If you’re new to electric cars, then a used Polestar 2 is one of the best. It’s comfortable, classy and packed full of easy-to-use tech.   

Whether you have a family to ferry around or you’re a solo driver, the Polestar 2 will make a great companion.
