Start nowThe Vauxhall Corsa-e launched in 2019 as an electric version of the already very popular supermini. As part of a 2023 update, it became known as the Vauxhall Corsa Electric, though it’s basically the same car.
Popular Vauxhall Corsa-e trims
Vauxhall regularly changes its trim levels so what you’ll see will vary by model year, but most come with more than just the basics.
> Vauxhall Corsa-e SE Nav - Entry-level car based on the Corsa SE but with more tech, including a sat-nav
> Vauxhall Corsa-e GS Line - Sporty-looking trim level that’s similar in spec to the SE Nav
> Vauxhall Corsa-e Elite Nav - Top-spec option with matrix LED headlights, all-round parking sensors and a reversing camera
Vauxhall Corsa-e history
The Corsa has been around for 40 years, but it finally got an electric version in 2019 with the sixth generation.
> Vauxhall Corsa-e (2019) - Vauxhall’s modern take on the Corsa gains an electric variant alongside petrol and diesel options
> Facelifted Vauxhall Corsa Electric (2023) - Although the Corsa-e went off sale in 2023, it was replaced by the virtually identical Corsa Electric
All versions come with automatic lights and wipers, LED headlights, keyless start, reversing sensors and cruise control.
You’ll have to step up if you want keyless entry, front parking sensors and a bigger infotainment display with a swanky digital instrument cluster.
Electric cars tend to be quite simple mechanically, which is good reliability.
The Vauxhall Corsa-e also shares many of its parts with the Peugeot e-208, along with other Vauxhall, Peugeot, Citroen and DS models, which helps to boost reliability
It’s also covered by a three-year warranty from new, and the battery gets a separate eight-year/100,000-mile warranty for extra peace of mind.
Electricity costs vary by provider and whether you’re at home or out and about, but you could save hundreds compared with a petrol-powered Corsa over the course of a year.
It may cost slightly more in insurance thanks to its higher groupings (early 20s compared with late teens for the petrol models). Just remember the cheaper running costs before ruling out a Corsa-e for its insurance costs.
The Vauxhall Corsa is a great option for anyone after an affordable EV – it may not be as stylish as its Peugeot e-208 cousin, but it’s typically cheaper to buy.
It’s a strong choice for anyone considering other electric superminis such as the Renault Zoe and BYD Dolphin.
There’s not enough information to know exactly how long a Vauxhall Corsa-e’s battery will last, but plenty of EVs have travelled up to a million miles on the same battery.
Vauxhall’s eight-year battery warranty adds extra peace of mind – it also guarantees at least 70% battery capacity by the end of that time.
The 136hp motor and a 0-60mph sprint time of 7.6 seconds doesn’t sound especially fast, but it’s nearly two seconds quicker than the 100hp petrol model.
Thanks to the instant response from its electric motor, it feels very spritely, especially around town.
You can’t update the operating system in the Corsa-e unlike some other EVs, but Vauxhall does make sat-nav updates available sometimes.
The updates are downloaded from a USB stick plugged into the car. Instructions for the process are then displayed on-screen.
With the standard 7kW charging speeds, a full charge will take as little as 7.5 hours.
Some buyers ticked the box for 11kW charging from new, which could slash around two hours off that time, but most homes can’t support that anyway.
Rapid charging speeds are capped at 100kW, which is standard for this size car. A charge to 80% takes roughly 30 minutes.
Vauxhall recommends an initial service after the first year (or 8,000 miles), but then that reduces to every two years (or 16,000 miles).
