Start nowFor years, Cupra was positioned as SEAT’s performance brand, but now it’s become something in its own right, offering compelling EV options to new and used car buyers.
As soon as 2024, Cupra could take over its parent company name, with a statement from VW Group CEO Thomas Schäfer saying, “The future of SEAT is Cupra.”
The Cupra name comes from ‘Cup Racing’, which hints at the brand’s rallying heritage.
Speaking of which, the first time the name was used on a car was in 1996 with the SEAT Ibiza GTI Cupra Sport 16v, which was a wide and powerful performance hatchback.
Today, while it still makes powerful cars, used Cupra cars for sale focus more on luxury, and its newer electric range including the Cupra Born, which is based on the VW ID.3.
Used Cupra cars offer features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, solid infotainment systems and other bells and whistles including heated steering wheels, rain and light sensors, and remote temperature control.
When it comes to reliability, all modern used Cupra cars should be fine, especially with the backing from the Volkswagen Group, which also owns Porsche, Audi, Skoda, Bentley and Bugatti.
In terms of running costs, these should be relatively low because a used Cupra is a new brand that has strong ties with the aforementioned companies.
Electric models such as the Born will be more efficient, but all models offer fuel-efficient powertrain options.
As for safety, its latest cars tested by Euro NCAP scored a full five stars, offering superb adult and child occupant safety thanks to features such as ISOFIX points, airbags and automatic emergency braking (AEB).
The sort of person who should buy a Cupra used car is someone who’s stylish and wants a dependable car that looks more exotic than a VW or Skoda. This is truly where this brand comes into its own.
Other popular models include the Formentor and Ateca SUVs, and the smaller Leon that sits above the Ibiza in the model range.
No matter which one you choose, you’re getting a solid car with Volkswagen underpinnings and very fuel-efficient engines.
Cupra is SEAT's performance brand and is known for creating high-performance cars. It operates as a separate entity within SEAT, offering upgraded versions of its models with tweaked design features and performance upgrades. Cupra models are the wise choice if you want the dependability of a VW/SEAT but with a sporty edge.
Cupra offers both electric and hybrid vehicles. Models such as the Cupra Leon e-Hybrid and Cupra Formentor e-Hybrid offer environmental benefits through reduced emissions and improved fuel efficiency. It also makes the all-electric Cupra Born, which has a claimed 343-mile range and produces 231hp.
Cupra's performance is strong when compared to other sporty car brands. With their blend of power and agility, Cupras deliver a hot-hatch-like driving experience. If you like the Golf GTI or Renault Megane RS, then you'll feel at home in a Cupra.
Cupras come equipped with a range of standard safety features to ensure a secure and safe driving experience. These include advanced airbags, an anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), tire pressure monitoring and rearview cameras to name a few.
The Cupra brand strives to be different, and this can be seen in its distinctive exterior and interior styling. It goes for sleek lines, bold contours and sharp details, setting it apart from the competition. For example, the Formentor SUV features an aggressive-looking exterior, while the interior is modern and chic.
