Start nowWhen it first arrived on the scene in 2008, the Dacia Sandero became an instant hit for those wanting a budget-friendly supermini with the quality and reliability of its older Renault siblings – the Sandero shares many parts with the Renault Clio.
Since launching, Dacia has sold nearly a quarter of a million Sanderos in the UK, proving the success of this affordable pick.
The Sandero is available with either a petrol or diesel engine – all offer sufficient levels of power for the size and weight of the car.

Dacia Sandero history
Built in partnership with Renault, the Dacia Sandero offered budget-friendliness to more people, and since its launch, has undergone a few facelifts.
> First-generation Dacia Sandero (2008-2012) - born out of Romania, this cheap supermini made new motoring much more affordable to the public
> Second-generation Dacia Sandero (2012-2020) - with a refined package and more appealing styling, it was the first Sandero to come to the UK and became more in line with the rest of Dacia’s model lineup
> Third-generation Dacia Sandero (2020-present) - again, new styling and engine tweaks, this version of the Sandero is the best there’s been
The Sandero is well-equipped for a car of its price point.
It has a very clean and simplistic dashboard layout, with top-spec models getting an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
They also get a built-in sat-nav, a USB phone charger, parking sensors and a reversing parking camera.
Entry-level models have a pop-up clip for holding a smartphone, for which there is an app to connect to the car.
As for practicality, the Sandero has the interior space and boot size to challenge most of its competitors.
Modern Dacia Sandero models rank highly overall among recognised consumer surveys.
They also benefit from the readily available parts and solid manufacturing typical of Renault.
A variety of petrol and diesel engines are available, but the 0.9-litre and 1.0-litre turbocharged petrols are the most popular – you even get models that run on LPG.
The reality is that every used Dacia Sandero for sale is economical.
The Sandero sits in low insurance groups, helping to reduce the overall cost of ownership.
A used Dacia Sandero for sale is an especially appealing model for those who have a limited budget but want something reasonably sizeable, because this car can quite capably handle family life.
Its main rivals include the Volkswagen Polo, Renaut Clio and Skoda Fabia.
The Sandero is a great car for someone after a budget-friendly and superb supermini. It handles the competition against its rivals with ease and is certainly a great option to consider.
The Sandero is made in Romania where Dacia originates from, but the brand is opening new factories in other countries as it continues to work closely with Renault.
All modern Sandero models come as standard with air-conditioning.
Dacia is able to make the Sandero so cheaply from new because of its simple nature. It may not have all the fancy technology you’d find in a luxury saloon, but it certainly has all you need.
The Sandero is based on a modified version of the Renault Clio’s platform, so the two are similar, but Dacia models feature their own brand values, build and parts.
