Start nowThe Ford Focus ST-Line is a sporty-looking version of the regular Focus hatchback, but it doesn’t come with the high running costs often associated with the performance ST model.
Ford’s hot hatches are sold as ST models, so with a Focus ST-Line, you’ll be able to get all of that style while still getting an economical petrol or diesel model from the regular Focus range.
ST-Line has been a Ford trim level since around 2016, so you’ll be able to pick from stylish versions of previous-generation and latest-generation Focus ST-Line models.
Despite its sporty looks, the Ford Focus ST-Line comes with many of Ford’s most economical engines, including the very popular 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine with power ranging from 100hp to 155hp.
These and the EcoBlue diesels are some of the most efficient engines around, but they still pack a punch. They sit in low insurance groups and are generally pretty cheap to tax.
Besides standard variants, you can pick from newer mild hybrid models and select Ford’s smooth-shifting PowerShift automatic gearbox.
Precisely what you’ll get with your Focus ST-Line depends on which model you go for, because several updates have seen even more kit added. As a rule of thumb, the newer, the better.
For example, new ST-Line models get large alloy wheels, a large 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and keyless entry.
You can also get higher-spec Focus ST-Line X models with an upgraded sound system, a digital instrument cluster, heated front seats, and even a heated front steering wheel.
All Focus ST-Line variants, including lower trim levels, come with a heated windscreen – perfect for defrosting on cold winter mornings.
Ford’s trim levels have changed over the years, and some older models were available in lower specifications like Style, Trend and Zetec.
High-spec Titanium and Titanium X models come with lots of equipment, and these were made entry-level for newer models, meaning that there’s no bad Focus.
For a similar price to ST-Line, you can pick from Active and Active X models, which have a higher ride height similar to a crossover. At the top of the range are sporty ST and RS models.
The Focus ST-Line gets features such as sports seats, a leather steering wheel, and advanced technology like a touchscreen infotainment system running Ford's SYNC software.
The Focus ST-Line focuses on a sporty look, while the Focus ST is a higher-performance model with a more powerful engine and sports suspension.
Inside, the Ford Focus ST-Line gets a few differences over the standard car including sports seats, a sportier steering wheel, and unique ST-Line detailing.
The Focus ST-Line has a claimed fuel economy figure of up to 54.3mpg.
It's hard to say but being more desirable than the standard Focus, it could be good news for enthusiasts who don't want to spend extra on an ST.
