Start nowThe Suzuki Ignis is a supermini-based crossover similar in size the the Ford Ka+, but it has plenty of unique selling points.
For example, there are ALLGRIP models that use four-wheel drive to tackle muddy tracks and icy car parks.
There’s also the fact that many models come with mild hybrid technology, badged SHVS, to reduce emissions and keep running costs low.
All of that aside, the Suzuki Ignis is a really good-looking crossover with a quirky style and plenty of interior technology – especially for a car of this size and cost.
Popular Suzuki Ignis trims
The usual array of Suzuki SZ-branded trim levels are available for the Ignis, however, in its later years on sale, lower-spec SZ3 cars were dropped.
> Suzuki Ignis SZ-T - base-spec car with reversing camera, air-con, automatic headlights and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
> Suzuki Ignis SZ5 - this range-topper gets cruise control, keyless entry, automatic climate control and a built-in sat-nav
Suzuki Ignis history
While the Ignis name may have been used previously for a slightly bigger but similar-looking boxy crossover, the name went unused until Suzuki revived the Ignis in 2016.
> Second-generation Suzuki Ignis (2016) - striking compact crossover with an amazing amount of appeal
> Facelifted Suzuki Ignis (2020) - focus on efficiency and refinement, with new mild hybrid option and CVT gearbox (replacing the old automated manual)
The Suzuki Ignis has been on sale for a number of years, and because it’s on the affordable end of the spectrum, low-spec cars might not have all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a larger crossover.
Post-facelift models offer more standard equipment, with things such as a reversing camera, digital radio and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto all coming as standard.
It’s worth scouting out top-spec models, which shouldn’t cost too much more, for luxuries like keyless entry and an automatic climate control system.
ALLGRIP models with four-wheel drive also get hill descent control and grip control functionalities, giving the little Ignis some real off-road credentials.
Like other Japanese manufacturers, Suzuki has built itself a reputation for building reliable cars, and the Ignis is no different.
Despite it having some advanced powertrain options like mild hybrid technology, four-wheel drive and a CVT gearbox, all of the mechanics are reasonably simple compared to larger SUVs – helping long-term dependability.
One of the many attractions of owning a used Suzuki Ignis is that it’s extremely light on fuel – most models should be able to achieve 40-50mpg on a long run, and town figures shouldn’t drop much below that anyway.
In fact, consumables like tyres, other maintenance costs and insurance are all about as low as they get, especially for a crossover. What’s not to love?
A used Suzuki Ignis for sale is an excellent pick for anyone after a compact car or supermini. Plus, it can double as a family car on the odd occasion.
It appeals to the growing number of SUV and crossover buyers, and walks the walk with its optional ALLGRIP system.
If that’s important to you, you might also consider a Fiat Panda 4x4. But if you just like the rugged look, a Ford Fiesta Active might be more up your street.
The cost of a used Ignis on finance will depend on the model you choose and the type of finance you go for, but you can use our online finance calculator to get a quote and see what suits you.
Suzuki has never had many issues when it comes to reliability, and this is reflected in its Ignis model. Not only is it a very dependable vehicle, but it also ranks well among recognised consumer surveys.
Not all Ignis models feature a four-wheel drive system, but some top-spec variants may do. This is definitely something to look out for on the used market and can be searched using the filter settings on our website.
This small SUV is good on longer journeys as well as around town. What makes it so impressive on the motorway is its 55.7mpg rating and its comfortable interior.
The Ignis is technically a small SUV. It’s based on the same platform as the Swift and therefore is not much larger. Due to its raised driving position and off-road capabilities, however, it's considered an SUV.
